Abstract: The Tongmai-Lulang section of the Sichuan-Tibet Railway is near the YarlungZangbo suture zone which formed by the collision between the Indian and the Asian plate. The complex geological structure and prominent engineering geological problems restricts the choice of the route selection. On the basis of remote sensing interpretation and regional geological data, combined with field investigation, geophysical exploration, drilling, in-situ stress testing and petrological experiments, the YarlungZangbo suture zone, high crustal stress, high geothermal activities and hydrogeological problems are studied and analyzed. The authors deem that: the YarlungZangbo suture zone is a complex tectonic belt formed by plates collision with poor regional stability, high geothermal and prominent hydrogeological problems; The in-situ stress in the buried depth of the tunnel dominated by horizontal tectonic stress from Tongmai to Lulang. The principle of route selection was put forward in the region. Comparison of CK and C1K scheme engineering geological conditions, it is concluded that the CK scheme is superior to the C1K scheme. It provides a scientific basis for the selection of the route direction.
