aking the shield boring through Shougouling fractured zone in TianHua running tunnel of line 3 of Guangzhou Mass Rapid Transit system as example, the author presents the difficulties encountered during the tunnel boring, including buildings protection, mud cakes, water gushing, chamber pressure control and cutting tool damages. Furthermore, the author also provides the corresponding countermeasures.
