Overview and Prospect of Researches on Intelligent Engineering Technologies for Tunnels Constructed by Drilling-and-Blasting Method

Abstract: The intelligent engineering technologies for tunnels constructed by drilling-and-blasting method is a new
tunneling mode formed by the deep integration of the new generation of the information technology, modern tunnel
construction technology, and intelligent equipment. Intelligent tunneling is the trend of the development of the drillingand-
blasting method, and also the urgent demand of the current tunnel construction. In this paper, the status of the
researches on the intelligent engineering technologies for tunnels constructed by drilling-and-blasting method is
comprehensively described in aspects of intelligent engineering, intelligent advance geological prediction, intelligent
surrounding rock quality evaluation, intelligent design and intelligent construction, and the future development prospects
and trends of the intelligent engineering are forecast. The research shows that the intelligent engineering technologies for
tunnels constructed by drilling-and-blasting method at present is at the primary stage, which is mainly reflected by the
initial introduction of the artificial intelligence technology and the further development of the tunneling theory and the
tunneling methods, such as the intelligent interpretation of the geophysical advance geological prediction data, the
intelligent surrounding rock quality evaluation based on the drilling parameters, the digital images and the laser point
cloud, the integrated quantitative design of the advance supporting, the partial and overall design models of the support
structure based on the deformation pressure, the standard excavation method based on the full-face method and the twobench
method, research and development of intelligent construction equipment represented by the intelligent rockdrilling
jumbo, the intelligent identification of the cracks and water leakage on the secondary lining surface, and the
collaborative management platform for the intelligent construction of tunnels on Zhengzhou-Wanzhou high-speed
railway. In the future, it is necessary to build intelligent algorithms and models applicable to the intelligent construction
of tunnels by drilling-and-blasting method, explore the response law of the surrounding rock and the mechanical
characteristics of the support under the conditions of the intelligent engineering, develop the evaluation method for the
overall stability of the surrounding rock and the integrated design method for the support system considering the time
effect, develop the self-sensing, self-adapting and self-decision-making multi-functional intelligent equipment, form a
more safe, efficient and economic standardized process for intelligent tunnel construction, and develop a collaborative
management platform with wider coverage, stronger functions, and higher intelligence level.
