In the engineering geological location of South Lvliangshan tunnel, issues, such as how to avoid the goaf areas, how to optimize the coalcrossing section, how to guarantee that the water environment of Longzici spring is not damaged and how to guarantee the water supply for the 700 000 citizens in Linfen city, are essential. It is proposed, on basis of hydrogeological surveys and engineering geological surveys, that the tunnel should pass through the strata below the coal seams and goaf areas, but above the saturated water level of Longzici spring. The construction of the tunnel shows that the engineering geological location of the tunnel is rational and correct. 
