Superlargediameter shield machines sometimes have to pause during boring. In this case, it is difficult to maintain the posture of the shield and the stability of the tunnel. In the paper, the reinforcement of ground where a superlargediameter slurry shield pauses during tunneling in Shanghai is described. RJP grouting is made to consolidate the ground and the consolidation scope is rationally designed and optimized. In the end, the stability of the shield and the tunnel is maintained and the ground surface settlement is controlled, which demonstrates that the technologies adopted are safe and reliable. The paper can provide reference for similar projects in the future.
