The cooling of the driving motor and hydraulic system of shield machine is very important. In the paper, the beat balance calculation of the shield machine, the selection of the water pump and heat exchanger and the design of the piping system are presented. An industrial water cycling system of shield machine is designed. The water cycling system has been applied on shield machines and good cooling effect has been achieved. The mentioned water cycling system has been widely used on Hitachi shield machines.
