Abstract

The realtime monitoring of cutter wear and cutterhead vibration of TBM (tunnel boring machine) are difficult due to the limit of construction environment. As a result, the realtime monitoring systems for wear of hob cutter and scrape cutter of TBM based on eddycurrent sensor and resistance grid are proposed; and then the relationship between the output voltage signals and the wear amount is established by test. Meanwhile, the field monitoring of cutterhead vibration of a TBM with diameter of 8.03 m used in Songhua River Water Diversion Project in Jilin province is carried out; and the vibration response is analyzed. The results show that: 1) The vibration value increases with the penetration increases under certain geological conditions. 2) The frequencydomain curve shows the characteristics of local peaks and small overall amplitudes when the cutterhead is idling. Several frequency ranges with larger amplitudes when TBM normally boring are equal to peaks when TBM idling. As a result, the abovementioned ranges should be avoided when manufacturing.
