Multiple problems will be encountered when the slip mode is adopted in the moving system of a large component. These problems include complex structure, fussy operation, difficult axis deviation control, low construction efficiency, and high operation cost. A moving system with a wheelrail trolley is designed and developed herein for a steelshell concreteimmersed tube prefabrication project in the ShenzhenZhongshan Link. A detailed analysis on this moving system is conducted from the aspects of the overall design, wheel diameter selection, bearing capacity review, roof design, and drive system design. A field test and a comparison of the construction efficiency and the economic benefits are conducted. The practical results show that the moving system with a wheelrail trolley has high construction efficiency and synchronization. Its axis deviation control also meets relevant specifications and design requirements, ensuring that ultralarge components with a weight exceeding 80 000 tons can be moved safely and efficiently.
