Abstract

According to the statistical analysis conducted on China′s railway tunnels in operation, under construction, and in planning by the end of 2025, China′s operating railway mileage (route-km) reached 165 000 km. A total of 19 438 railway tunnels were in service (~25 242 km), 2 663 under construction (~7 117 km), and 5 426 in planning (~13 560 km). More than 50 400 km of high-speed railway (HSR) was in service in China, with 5 301 operating HSR tunnels, totaling ~9 148 km. Among them, the extra-long railway tunnels included 318 tunnels in service (~4 284 km), 172 tunnels under construction (~2 635 km), and 250 tunnels in planning (~3 532 km). Statistical analysis is conducted on the distribution of under-construction and in-service extra-long railway tunnels across China′s seven geographic regions. A summarization of the major achievements in railway tunnels during the 14th Five-Year Plan period is finally provided.
