Regarding the surface settlement caused by shield tunneling, a BP neural network model is established in the paper on basis of the geological parameters of a running tunnel on line 3 of Guangzhou Metro. Training and testing are made for the neural network. The testing results indicate that it is feasible to predict the surface settlement resulted by shield tunneling by means of neural network and the prediction method can be put into engineering practices.
