Due to the disturbance to the ground induced by construction of Metro tunnels, ground deformations occur inevitably. On basis of the undercutting construction under shallow overburden of Yingkoudao station of phase 1 of Tianjin Metro located in soft and waterrich ground and the analysis on the results of the monitoring of the ground surface displacement, the basic pattern of the ground surface displacement induced by undercutting under shallow overburden is obtained. Furthermore, technical measures to control the ground deformations are recommended and fully applied in the construction of phase 1 works of Tianjin Metro and good effects are achieved.
