Abstract: To verify whether partitioned excavation can effectively control the settlement of adjacent buildings when constructing the deep foundation pit of long narrow metro station, building settlement adjacent to the foundation pit of Diejiao station in Foshan metro line 3 is collected and sorted out. Meanwhile, threedimensional finite element models for partitioned excavation and overall excavation of deep foundation pit are established and the settlement of the two methods are compared. The results show that if the foundation pit to be constructed is long and narrow, settlement of the building adjacent to the middle of the long side of foundation pit is obvious, but if the foundation pit is districted with dividing walls, the space effect of foundation pit can be fully developed and the influence of "long side effect" on the settlement of surrounding buildings can be reduced.
