Abstract: The local transportation space of rail stations in Japan employs a threedimensional connection system. The system has been highly efficient in promoting the development of these areas. The authors use literature review, summarization and ratiocination, and spatial analysis to scrutinize this system. The results demonstrate that this threedimensional layout can be divided into four types of transportation: rail, motor, pedestrian, and static. The connection modes include a threedimensional base plane, spatial structure, and spatial connection. Finally, double and multiplelayer traffic base planes and their network topology, a seamless connection mode consisting of internal and external buildings, overhead and underground traffic network, pedestrian walking system, and static parking system are proposed.
