Experimental Study on Waterproof Performance of Double-Sealing Gaskets at Segmental Joints of Shield Tunnels

Abstract: A self-designed device for testing the waterproof performance of double-sealing gaskets is applied in a super-large diameter shield tunnel to conduct water pressure resistance experiments on the inner and outer double-sealing gaskets considering bolt holes. Through these experiments, the waterproof performance of bolt-hole on double-sealing gasket systems is investigated. The results demonstrate the following: (1) The bolt holes control the overall waterproof performance of the double-sealing gaskets fixed on the inner and outer sides of the segmental joint. When they leak under insufficient waterproof capacity, the improvement in waterproof performance of double-sealing gaskets is less, compared to that when a single-sealing gasket is used. (2) The waterproof performance of double-sealing gaskets is considerably enhanced with sufficient waterproof performance of the bolt holes. (3) The waterproof performance of bolt holes should meet the collaborative waterproof requirements of double-sealing gaskets when applying them in super-large diameter shield tunnels.
