Abstract:

Due to improper sinking construction method and complex geological conditions, a shaft of a tunnel project that crosses the Yangtze River is flooded by water, which is preceded by water inflows and sand inflows. Under the prerequisite that heavy shaft frames and hoisting systems have been installed and that there is no space available for the mudsucking equipment and mudcollecting equipment, grouting is conducted both from the ground surface and from inside the shaft to seal the water inflowing passages and to consolidate the loose sand that has inflowed into the shaft, thus the incident of shaft flooding is coped with successfully.

Key words: caisson, water inflow, sand inflow, fine silt sand, grouting layer by layer
