Abstract:

Sand flowing and piping are prone to occur when construction is performed in ground consisting of saturated fine silt sands. Furthermore, due to the high sensitivity and thixotropy of the ground, ground failure is prone to occur under dynamic actions. In such ground, serious subsidence or collapse will occur if improper construction activities are performed. The article presents the excavation and reinforcement technology adopted for the foundation pit of Jiefang Road Project in Hangzhou, which is situated in saturated fine silt sands.
