Effect Analysis on Application of Largediameter
Ducts in Ventilation of Underground Caverns

Abstract:

In underground cavern excavation, it is a common practice to install local ventilation systems so as to improve the air quality at the singleend working faces.  quantitative analysis is made on the advantages of the application of largediameter ducts in the singleend driving ventilation of underground caverns in terms of energy consumption, resistance, air volume, ventilation distance and cost. Conclusion is drawn that largediameter ducts should be used as far as possible when the site conditions are suitable and that application of largediameter ventilation ducts is one of the effective means to improve the ventilation effect at the singleend working faces.
