Innovative Study on Rapid and Deep Excavation Method for Underground MRT Project

Abstract: Considering construction schedule and safety, we skip the restrut, adjust the steps of underground construction, and build up large areas of continuous sidewall system formwork. The sidewall system formwork is 4.5 m high. After the slab is constructed, the eighth and ninth strut is removed, and we start to construct the sidewall. The formwork can be immediately moved to next area. The numerical analysis is done before the construction, so we confirm the lateral earth pressure can be resistant by the 7th layer and slap when the eighth and ninth struts are removed. The rebar strainmeter is installed in the two sides of the wall in order to check lateral stress can be transferred to sidewall when soil creeping. The result will be compared with the actual lateral displacement of the retaining wall. The large areas of continuous sidewall system formwork is constructed successfully for the sidewall of upper layers. The construction period is shorten 7 months around. This case shall serve as reference for similar construction work.
