Abstract: As the coal mining grows deeper and deeper, the control of the stability of the rock mass at the intersection points in great depth has become a difficult issue. Countermeasures to control the stability of the rock mass at the intersection point of the second parking area on the third level of Hebi No. 5 coal mine, i.e., the coupling support including rock bolting, wiremeshing, shotcreting, plus anchor cables and single truss, are proposed on basis of geological investigations, theoretical analysis and FLAC3D numerical simulations. The countermeasures have been applied and proved to be effective.
Key words: soft rock, intersection, coupling support
