Abstract: Section measurement is the most direct method for acquiring monitoring data of an operating tunnel in tunnel maintenance tasks. Longterm and regular monitoring over tunnel sectional displacement not only provides good control over stability variations of the operating tunnel, it also generates key information for the safety assessment and structural reinforcement of the tunnel. Based on EXCEL, part of 2003 Microsoft Office, accompanied with VBA (Visual Basic for Application), the study developed a model of standard operation procedures for processing the tunnel section measurement data, handling a large amount of the original sectional measurement data of the shield tunnel, and transforming the original data into modular information which can be queried. Sectional profiles automatically plotted by the program provided cross comparison of geographic displacements of localities, and study and analysis of impact degrees of the stress. Via this logic model, it enabled a breakthrough over format inconsistency limitations in the system measurement data attained by different section scanning systems; all the multiple section survey data processed by the program, in any format, can be automatically plotted, overlapped, and compared for sectional differences between prior and posterior inspections. Subsequent importation of sectional data processed by the system into the database can further be used as the major source of system information for the maintenance and management authorities, for developing a value-added Decision Support System.
