Abstract: A horizontal gallery of a Metro station passes below a historic church. In order to control the displacement of the historic church during the construction of the horizontal gallery, composite anchor piles are installed from the ground surface to separate the historic church from the horizontal gallery and deephole grouting is executed from inside the tunnel to consolidate the fine silt sand strata at the tunnel crown. The monitoring results show that the composite consolidation measures taken are effective. The measures taken are superior to others in terms of site requirement and therefore are more suitable to be used in urban Metro construction.
