Risks in Tunneling by TBM and Their Countermeasures

Abstract:

he causes for the risks in tunneling by TBM are analyzed and summarized in terms of geological conditions, equipments and working teams. The geological factors are described in detail, and the requirements for equipments and working teams are proposed. Furthermore, countermeasures are proposed for the risks. In the end, the risks and coun termeasures of Hsuehshan tunnel are presented and analyzed. The paper can provide reference for TBM design,  riskanalysis and risk prevention of similar projects in the future. 
