Abstract: Standard metro stations are common, whereas invertedhall metro stations are uncommon in China, particularly in a comprehensive transportation hub with multiple lines. To overcome the difficulties in the design of inverted-hall metro stations, a case study is conducted on the design of an invertedhall metro station of a comprehensive transportation hub for the interchange between Xi′an intercity railway airport line and metro line 4. The design methods and concepts of the inverted-hall metro station are thoroughly examined and summarized. It is suggested that the input conditions and control factors should be carefully analyzed in the design of similar invertedhall metro stations, with special consideration to the fire compartment division and fire evacuation design. Moreover, the unconventional evacuation mode should be optimized into the conventional evacuation mode, resulting in a more rational metro station design scheme.
Key words: invertedhall metro station, interchange station, integrated transportation hub, fire evacuation
