Introduction to Survey and Design on Long Highway Tunnel in Serbia

Abstract: By taking the longest highway tunnel under construction in Serbia as an example, the main contents of tunnel in eastern Europe concerning on engineering survey and design, technical standards, composite lining design, primary support analysis, and secondary lining calculation are introduced in detail. The rock mass rating surrounding rock classification method is adopted for highway tunnels in eastern Europe, and the design concept of the new Austrian tunneling method is used, which integrates the new Italian tunneling method on the unstable soft surrounding rock using the prereinforcement measures at the tunnel face with advance long glass anchor bolts as enhancement. The reserved deformation of primary support is larger than that in China. The standard components such as steel arch, steel mesh, and anchor are adopted for composite lining support system, attentions are paid on calculation and analysis, and the primary support and secondary lining are checked according to European standards. The design of the tunnel auxiliary engineering is quite different from the similar projects in China. In the design of the tunnel water supply and drainage, fire protection, mechanical and electrical engineering, high standard design is carried out according to the most unfavorable operating conditions, and the scales of civil engineering associated with this system increase obviously.
