Abstract: To address the issues of the acceptance, adaptability, and human-machine collaboration of shield
tunneling drivers towards intelligent shield tunneling, this study reviews research at the intersection of the three
fields of intelligence, human factors and engineering construction. Using the VOSviewer software to analyze the
co-occurrence of keywords in 178 articles, three research dimensions were identified: trust in automation, human
factors risk and human factor design. Based on the citation time of the theme keywords, human-machine
collaboration was identified as an important research trend in the interaction between humans and intelligent
construction machinery. On this basis, insights were discussed for future research on human factors research
insights in intelligent shield tunneling. Based on data analysis from actual projects, interpretability was found to
be key to improving operators' acceptance of intelligent shield tunneling machines. Additionally, practical project
data analysis revealed the need to enhance drivers' adaptability by improving workload measurement and
applying digital technologies. Human-machine collaboration can be achieved by integrating human-machine
intelligence, allocating human-machine functions, and designing work modes.
