Vacuum tube transport has advantages such as small
crosssection size, lightweight, and integrated structure. When it is
constructed on a seabed as a seacrossing channel, its
cost is lower than a seacrossing bridge, submarine,
immerged, or submerged floating tunnel. Therefore, it is one of the
alternatives for Taiwan Strait passage. Herein, the route direction,
longitudinal crosssection, structure form of intosea point, and landing point of the seabed vacuum tube in the Taiwan
Strait are analyzed. Subsequently, according to the principle of the shortest
distance, the development of cities on the both sides of the Taiwan Strait,
existing traffic status and future development plan, distribution of islands,
topography, and landform of the seafloor, and based on the structural
characteristics of vacuum tube and elevation data of Google Earth, the isobath
map is drawn, and the line plane and vertical section maps under different
conditions are given and compared. The rational route is located in the range
of the PingtanHsinchu channel, including the PingtanTaoyuan Xinwu and PingtanHsinchu North
districts. The route of the seacrossing section is
approximately 128 km in length, and the largest depth and longitudinal slope
reaches 87 m and 10‰, respectively. The intosea section should adopt the maximum slope limit to reduce the
length lashed by seawaves, or the tunnel scheme should be adopted between the
land and vacuum tube.
