Abstract:

Due to the extremely long length, great thickness, large length/height ratio and long construction period, Futian underground comprehensive transportation hub in Shenzhen has to suffer large temperatureinduced contraction stress and dryinduced contraction stress during the construction. If expansion joints are installed, the appearance, structural safety, waterproofing quality, construction and durability of the structure will be affected. In this paper, the feasibility that no permanent expansion joints are installed for the project is studied by means of theoretical analysis and design calculation. Furthermore, the structural types, anticracking materials, construction requirements, site monitoring and crack countermeasures are studied so as to avoid harmful cracks of the main structure of the project under the condition of no permanent expansion joints. In the end,a serise of technical program is proposed. The construction practice shows that the anticracking requirement of the main structure of the project can be met when no permanent expansion joints are installed, provided that the project is constructed according to the designed anticracking structural types, materials and construction requirements.
