Abstract: To investigate the effect of tunneling parameters on mucking efficiency of tunnel boring machine(TBM) in the construction of a pumpedstorage power station inclined shaft, a numerical calculation model of mucking of cutterheads with two different diameters is established. The effect of different advancing speed and rotation speed of cutterhead on the mucking efficiency and rate of the cutterhead is analyzed. The simulation results reveal the following: (1) The mucking efficiency of the largediameter cutterhead is larger than that of the smalldiameter one. With an increase in advancing speed, the smalldiameter cutterhead shows a better mucking performance than the largediameter one, and the mucking efficiency can reach 80.02%. (2) The mucking efficiency and rate of both cutterheads increase first and then decrease with increasing rotation speed of cutterhead. The largeand smalldiameter cutterheads achieve the maximum mucking efficiency of 74.34% and 79.82% at rotation speed of 6 and 7 r/min, respectively. (3) Compared with the advancing speed, the rotation speed of cutterhead has a greater effect on the mucking performance. The mucking efficiency and rate would sharply decrease when the rotation speed of cutterhead is too high. Therefore, in the construction of pumpedstorage power station inclined shaft with TBM, reasonable operational parameters should be arranged to achieve efficient mucking of cutterhead.
