Abstract:

With the strong support of relevant organizations in the tunnel industry and based on the existing statistical data, statistical analysis is made on 74 superlong highway tunnels over 10 km completed and in operation, under construction, and planned and designed as of 2023 in China. In which, there are 25 tunnels completed and inoperation, 31 tunnels under construction, and 18 planned and designed tunnels. Statistical analysis is conducted from the aspects of length, province, highway, location, technical standard, construction method, designer, and contractor. The analytical results show that there are a total of 62 such tunnels with a length of 1014.9 km each, 10 with a length of 1519.9 km each, and two with a length over 20 km each. These tunnels are mainly distributed in the southwest China, accounting for approximately 63%, and with the highest numbers in Sichuan and Yunnan provinces. There are 65 expressway tunnels, accounting for approximately 88%. There are 68 and six mountain and underwater tunnels, respectively. These tunnels are mainly subject to the twoway fourlane design and mainly constructed by drilling and blasting method. The combination method of TBM + drilling and blasting has emerged in these tunnels. There are 31 designers and 52 contractors, respectively.
