Abstract: First, the authors conduct a statistical analysis of the operating lines and mileage of urban rail transit in China. The results show that, as of Dec. 31, 2023, there are 61 cities nationwide with urban rail transit, with a total operating mileage of approximately 11 034 km (when the "ART" system is not included, there are 54 cities with a total operating mileage of 10 866 km). Second, the authors conduct a statistical analysis of the approval status of new construction plans for urban rail transit in China. The results show that, in 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission of the People′s Republic of China approved the construction plans (or adjustment plans) of urban rail transit for five cities, with the increase in operating line length still primarily due to the operation of metro systems. Finally, the authors analyze the technological development characteristics of Chinas urban rail transit industry and conclud that: (1) Highquality development is the primary focus of urban rail transit management; (2) There is an increase in premium projects and technological innovations compared to previous years; (3) Urban rail transit continues to develop at a rapid pace, with the industry placing a greater emphasis on the operation and maintenance of already opened lines. It can be expected that green and lowcarbon construction technology as well as intelligent and efficient control technology will be the key focus for future industry development.
