Abstract: In the past years we usually adopted earth embankment for constructing the freeway limited to the cost and technology. According to the development of the city, the embankments bring the inconvenient to traffic. The car culvert passing through the embankment is the major issue for improving the heavy traffic. In this case, the dimension of the new vehicle culvert is 12 m(W) × 3 m(H) × 50 m(L). The traffic of the freeway at this section is very heavy, and the design criteria of the safety of the freeway is very high. Because of the elevation of the connection roads, the overburden of the pipe roof is about 0.6 m to 1.0 m. The construction of the shallow overburden of pipe roof is very difficult and of high risk. According to the numerical simulation, we will use good construction management and adopt automatic monitoring system to ensure the safety of the freeway embankment.
