Abstract: The foundation of an opencut tunnel is located in waterrich sandy cobble ground. The particles of the ground will be lost due to the dynamic ground water, which may cause serious settlement to the foundation of the tunnel. Two types of consolidation methods, i.e., “full consolidation+drain pass” method and stripshaped consolidation method, are studied for the consolidation of the foundation of the opencut tunnel. In the end, stripshaped consolidation method is adopted on basis of study results. The field monitoring data show that stripshaped consolidation method can meet the requirements of the works and is suitable for the consolidation of the foundation of tunnels located in waterrich sandy cobble ground.
