Key Technologies Applied in Design and Construction of Artificial Islands and Immersed Tunnel of Hong KongZhuhaiMacau Bridge (HZMB) Project

Abstract:

Hong KongZhuhaiMacao Bridge is a large scale seacrossing project connecting Hong Kong, Zhuhai and Macao. In the paper, the following contents are presented: 1) The design of the artificial island and the fabrication, transportation and sinking of steel cylinders; 2) Key technologies applied in the design and construction of the immersed tunnel, including technologies related to the foundation of the immersed tunnel, tube element consisting of several segments under large overburden and serious silting conditions, prefabrication of tube elements, towing and installation of tube elements, and tube elements on curved alignment; 3) Major construction equipment used, including steel cylinder sinking equipment, dredging barges, silt cleaning barges and hydraulic full crosssection formwork equipment. Due to the key technologies described, the problems encountered have been solved and great progress has been achieved.
