Abstract:

The causes, characteristics and consequences and the rules of frequency, vehicle types, time and regional distribution of fire accidents in highway tunnel are obtained by statistically analyzing the tunnel fire accidents in China from 2000 to 2015. The analytical results indicate that: 1) The fault of vehicle was the main factor for fire accident in tunnel, and it takes 63% of total fire accidents. 2) The fire, causes casualties accident, takes 16.3% of total fire accidents; and that, causes damage of tunnel structure, takes 24.8% of total fire accidents. 3) The truck was the main cause of fire. 4) Summer and winter were fire prone seasons, and the annual fire distribution presented a “W” shape. 5) There were more fire accidents in mountain areas and economically developed areas. Finally, some suggestions for further reduction of fire accidents in tunnel are presented based on the statistical results; and the future research directions of fire prevention and disaster reduction countermeasures are pointed out.
