Abstract: In the present world, green development has become an important trend, and the concept of green development is one of the important concepts guiding China′s "13th FiveYear Plan". The construction of urban underground space is the main focus of transforming urban development mode, treating "urban disease" and building green cities. Firstly, the concept of green building and green city and the relationship between them are explained. And then the concept, method and conception of using underground space to develop green buildings and green cities are illustrated from the aspects of saving land, utilizing geothermal energy, saving water and green urban infrastructure(including green urban passenger traffic and the intercity traffic, the future urban freight transportation, green city sewage and rain flood storage system, green city garbage pickup and processing system, intelligent underground comprehensive pipe gallery, and urban intelligent traffic system), etc., based on cases study of the typical projects in China and abroad. Finally, the importance of underground space development planning, the importance of planning science, the problems in development and planning and the specific requirements of planning are emphasized.
Key words: underground space, green buildings, green cities, geothermal energy, infrastructure, underground logistics
