Abstract: The stereo garages under road combined with utility tunnels can solve urban parking problem and make full use of underground space. In this paper, the combination scheme of the utility tunnels and underground stereo garages is proposed, and the construction scheme, structural composition, construction method, operation process, and future development of the tunnel type stereo garage under the road are comprehensively analyzed. Some conclusions are drawn as follows. (1) The tunnel type stereo garage under road with an entrance/exit on ground only occupies a small land on ground to solve urban parking problem. (2) The mechanical automatic construction scheme by pipe jacking or shield has little influence on the existing road structures, surrounding environment, and road running capacity; the launching/receiving shafts constructed can be used as the lifting channel to further make full use of underground space. The combination of utility tunnels and underground garages has many social benefits such as cost reduction, and is beneficial to urban development.
