Abstract:

Granite samples are collected from Shantou Bay Tunnel Project to test the CAI values and elemental compositions of the samples and to carry out disc cutter rock breaking experiment. And then comparison of rock breaking effect is made between 2 typical disc cutters(with and without inserting alloy teeth) under the same diameter of 48.26 cm(19″). Finally, the boring parameter variation of disc cutter without inserting alloy teeth under different thrusts and cutter spaces is studied. The experimental results show that: (1) The average content of Si in the granite samples is 37.35% and the CAI values is 3.56-3.91, which indicaters that the samples are highly abrasive. (2) The disc cutters without inserting alloy teeth have a higher tunneling efficiency than the ones with inserting alloy teeth. (3) The total thrust of a single disk cutter is 300 kN, and the corresponding tunneling speed is 4.1 mm/min.
