Type Selection of SuperLargeDiameter Slurry Shield Tunneling through Various Typical Strata: a Case Study of Wuhu Yangtze River Tunnel

Abstract: The hydrogeological conditions of Wuhu Yangtze river tunnel are complex. To improve the adaptability of cutterhead and cutters of superlargediameter slurry shield tunneling in silty fine sand, clay, and quartz sand strata under high water pressure, and further solve delayed mucking, chamber blocking, and cutterhead jam, techniques such as decreasing the disc cutter spacing, strengthening muck brushing in pressure chamber, and direct mucking are adopted in shield type selection and design stage. Compared with similar shield tunneling projects, the shield tunneling efficiency of Wuhu Yangtze river tunnel is increased by approximately 15%, greatly improving the safety of shield tunneling.
