Separate Launching Technology of EPB Shield in Narrow Space:  a Case Study on Shield Tunnel of Singapore Metro C715 Project

Abstract: Due to the narrow space of the launching shaft for shield tunnel of Singapore Metro C715 Project, the conventional separate launching technology has many engineering problems such as low efficiency of driving, large consumption of pipeline and poor operation effect of equipment. As a result, the key construction technology of shield separate launching in a shaft with a length of only 22 m is proposed by renovating the No.8 backup trolley, mucking equipment and segment transfer trolley, reorganizing the backup trolley on ground, and adding PLC relay cabinet, which can save a large number of cables and pipelines, effectively improve the tunneling efficiency, successfully complete segment transfer and assembly, and solve the problems of grease plugging caused by longdistance connecting pipelines and unstable signal transmission of line. Thus safer and more efficient and economical shield separate launching method can be achieved.
