Abstract:

In this study, the development of construction technology and the disadvantages associated with gas tunnels in China are summarized using network data, literature reviews, and onsite construction data. The findings are as follows: (1) Tunnels characterized by extensive gas sections and high gas concentrations are predominantly situated in central and western China. (2) The principal hazards associated with these tunnels include gas combustion, explosions, coal and gas outbursts, as well as gasinduced suffocation and poisoning, although the annual incidence of these disasters has declined. (3) Over the past 20 years, the design and construction specifications for these tunnels have seen comprehensive enhancements, incorporating national standards for railway and highway construction and regional standards in Guizhou, Sichuan, and Chongqing. (4) Safe construction of these tunnels relies heavily on advance detection, gas monitoring, adequate ventilation, coal removal, and antioutburst technologies. The parameters of these technologies have been optimized through diverse engineering practices. (5) Technical challenges, including the measurement of absolute gas emissions and the dynamic adjustment mechanism of the gas work area, continue to pose significant risks to construction safety and costs. Further specialized research is recommended to enhance design and construction standards, thereby providing robust theoretical and technological support for the safe and efficient construction of gas tunnels in China.
